Ms. Bredenberg, a dual language teacher at Jordan Matthews High School, used a Chatham Education Foundation Creative Teaching Grant to purchase copies of a bilingual story book about the mythical kingdom of Arendelle to go along with “Frozen Storytime.”
Frozen Storytime was part of Jordan Matthews High Schools’ North Carolina School Premiere of “Frozen: The Broadway Musical.” JMHS was the only school selected in North Carolina to be given the rights to perform this show.
Cast members from the play dressed in costume and visited dual-language pre-schoolers and kindergarteners across Chatham County Schools to read the “Frozen” book in Spanish and English. The high school students also explained what it means to be an actor and play dress up, as well as the difference between fantasy and reality. After the reading, the younger students had time to take photos with the cast members and then received their books which they could take home to share with their families and read in their home language. “The Frozen Bilingual Story time was a huge success,” said Ms. Bredenberg. “… The reaction of the students upon seeing the kids in the ‘Frozen’ costumes was priceless. We felt as if we were bringing Taylor Swift and her crew to the schools.”
