Briar Chapel Communities Partners with the Chatham Education Foundation to Support STEM at Northwood High School

Through a charitable donation provided by Briar Chapel Newland Communities, the Chatham Education Foundation (CEF) will be able to help Northwood High School meet it’s funding goal for several STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs that would have otherwise been unattainable.

Funding supported programs including:

  • Envirothon. Multiple teams from NHS will attend Envirothon, an annual competition in which teams compete in categories including soils and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues.
  • The Rocky River Student Club is a new club that will work with the Rocky River Heritage Foundation (a local non-profit that advocates for the Rocky River here in Chatham County) to monitor the water quality of the Rocky River, improve the education of the public about the river, and to interact with professionals that have expertise in aquatic/riverine habitats.
  • Funding the Math Club registration to the NC Math Competition.
  • Practice questions to help students prepare for the National Academic Quiz Tournaments.
  • New touch screen tablets for each of the nine math teachers.
  • The donation also supported the Earth Science class field trip, the Citizen Science Project, and the Chess Club.

The mission of the Chatham Education Foundation is to open doors to educational and personal growth opportunities for all students in Chatham County Schools. With educational funding on the decrease it is important now, more than ever before, to join together as a community and invest in the future of our children. This donation from Briar Chapel helps us meet this goal.
