On Saturday, November 23, Chatham Reads, a program of the Chatham Education Foundation and Chatham County Schools, gave away 130 children’s books at the Holiday Hub. The event was held at Washington Park in Siler City and was a collaboration of the Chatham Health Alliance, Authentic Community Targeted Solutions (ACTS) LLC, Self-Enhancing Education and Development Services (S.E.E.D.S.) and others. In addition to the holiday books from Chatham Reads, 300 food boxes, more than 200 hot meals, 100 winter coats, and lots of other clothing and health resources were gifted to Chatham families before the winter weather and the holidays.
The Chatham Health Alliance is a collaborative of local professionals and community members working together to improve the health and well-being of Chatham County residents. Through its Chatham Community Resource Hub, the Alliance hosts events all over Chatham County to safely provide community members with free resources. The Chatham Education Foundation is one of more than 100 member agencies of the Alliance. Since 2021, Chatham Reads has donated more than 1,200 books to Hub events.
“As Chatham Reads’ mission is to ensure literary resources are accessible to all Chatham County residents, Hub events are an ideal opportunity for us to get books into the hands of children who likely don’t have libraries of their own at home,” said Kathy Havens, program manager for Chatham Reads. “We value our partnership with the Chatham Health Alliance and hope to be able to continue to provide books at future Hub events.”
The Holiday Hub was sponsored by Vaya Health and the Chatham Marketplace Round-up Program.
