The Chatham Education Foundation (CEF) welcomes its newest addition, Heather Bochicco, who will serve as the Chatham Reads program associate supporting the collection and distribution of book donations through our community partners.
Heather is a longtime educator and literacy specialist and has taught high school English and middle school Language Arts. She has also served as a curriculum writer, homebound instructor, and essay specialist for college-bound students. Further, she has tutored students in a number of capacities including through Communities in Schools of Orange County.
In addition to working with CEF’s community partners and volunteers to collect, inventory, and distribute gently used books, Heather will also provide event support including for CEF’s annual Books on Break free book fairs held at Chatham County Schools in low-income communities. “We are excited for Heather to join us,” said Kathy Havens, Chatham Reads project manager. “She has been a fantastic volunteer, helping us sort and inventory books. With her background in literacy, she will play an essential role in helping select the best titles for our students who attend the Books on Break book fairs. We are so fortunate that someone with Heather’s talents and passion for young readers has joined CEF.”
“I am thrilled to be joining the team,” said Heather. “Working with Chatham Reads marries my background in education and passion for literacy and service. I am excited about the opportunity to get books into the hands of Chatham County children.”
Heather and her husband, Brian, a patent broker, have lived in and loved Chatham County since moving here from the DC area in 2010. The couple have two school-aged boys, one of whom attends Chatham County Schools’ Chatham Grove Elementary.
Other than, of course, reading, Heather loves to hike, travel and watch her boys play sports.
